Weight Training With A Weight Loss Goal

In a weight loss, or fat loss phase as I prefer to call it, weight training is considered a very important ingredient to the equation. The main emphasis of weight training in the fat loss phase is maintenance of muscle tissue.

Muscle tissue shapes and forms the contours of the body. I'm not saying you can change the shape of a muscle because that's physically impossible. It does, however, have a discernable shape that is reflected on the male or female body. So, if all emphasis were placed on cardiovascular or energy system development (ESD), as I call it, there would definitely be some muscle wasting going on.

This causes a loss in shape or lack of shape improvement when in a weight loss phase. Muscle is considered the primary indicator of metabolism. Basically, it single handedly determines how many calories the body burns. So if you lose muscle through exercise or dieting, you burn fewer calories through daily processes.

So, in a weight loss training program, we want to maintain or even add muscle to our frame through proper exercise prescription. The use of compound movements needs to be emphasized. This includes, but is not limited to, various forms of: squats ,deadlifts , pulls and pushes. Specific examples would be barbell squats, barbell bench press, chin ups, etc.

The frequency of weight training can vary, but keep in mind that maintenance of muscle tissue is the goal. The majority of training should be based on ESD. Weight workouts should include circuit training, supersets, tri sets, etc. to burn up energy and/or stimulate growth hormone which has been linked to fat mobilization and usage. Still, one session of the week should be devoted to lifting as heavy a weight as possible in good form. This is the most important lifting session of the week as far as muscle is concerned in a weight loss phase. By placing an overload on the system, the body has little choice but to hold onto that energy consuming tissue called muscle.

Repetitions for all lifts during each training session are going to be highly individual to the trainee. Beginners and women need to use a higher repetition range due to having less neurologically efficient central nervous systems. Basically, this means they aren't able to use as much muscle per repetition as someone with more experience. Both populations obviously improve with training. Intermediate and advanced trainees, on the other hand, need to use lower ranges. The one exception is when growth hormone or lactate producing workouts are to be performed. For this type of workout the range needs to be from 12-20.

One quick side note. Women shouldn't be afraid to lift heavy weights. I see it all the time at every gym I've ever been to. Lots of cardio and very little weight training. Most women need to get stronger. The concern of getting "big, bulky muscles" is so outdated it makes me sick. If you sit and worry about getting these "big, bulky muscles", consider all the men out there who are doing everything they know to get "big, bulky muscles" and are having a hard time achieving that. Men have a distinct advantage, with few exceptions from the female population, in stimulating muscle growth. The hormone, testosterone, is one of the main factors in this process. Women produce much less of it and therefore have a harder time adding muscle mass. I'm not saying women can't add muscle, it just might take a little longer or be a little harder to accomplish. Now make the necessary changes in your program and get started!

Weight Loss - Getting Back on Track

Remember when you first decided you were going to lose weight? How excited and determined you were? Then the battle began and your conviction has started to fade. Here are some steps to get back on track.

  1. Remember why you set your goal in the first place. Did you want to have more energy to do activities with your family? Or maybe you want to lose weight to boost your self esteem, participate in an outdoor adventure vacation, or improve your health by lowering your cholesterol or blood pressure.

  2. Place your goal in a location you will see daily, such as on your refrigerator door. This way every morning you will be reminded to take the necessary steps to achieve your goal, whether it is heading to the gym, not reaching for the sweets at work, or packing a lunch instead of eating out.

  3. Tell others about your goals and how you plan to be successful. Friends and family can help you by giving the extra support you need to stick with it.

  4. Seek professional help. Did you join a gym but are overwhelmed by the equipment or think you look foolish because you are unsure what you are doing? Meet with a personal trainer to learn how the equipment works and be shown a workout that will meet your goals. Are you trying to eat healthier by reading food labels but do not know what you should be looking for on the label? Seek out the help of a nutrition specialist or dietitian to show you how to make healthier choices.

  5. Track your progress to stay motivated. Mark on the calendar the days you work out as a visual of progress you are making towards your goal. Check your weight monthly to chart results or if you are working on lowering your blood pressure/cholesterol visit your physician to monitor progress.

How To Study Weight Loss

You can do anything that anyone else has done. You can have anything that anyone else has. You can be anything that some else already is.

How? Because they already have accomplished it so you know it can be done. The variable is how hard you are willing to get the same results someone else has.

I am not trying to say be like someone else here. I am saying that if there is something you want to have or be in this lifetime, make a study out of what other successful people have done to get it.

Make a habit out of studying successful people and begin doing what they've done or what they advise. Sure, there are going to be some limitations and some setbacks.

You will probably not be able to play pro baseball or basketball if you are in your 50's.

You may not be able to be president of the United States if you've failed to graduate school.

That does not and should not mean you do not set lofty goals for yourself.

The habit of study comes after accepting responsibility and thinking about what it is you want to achieve with your body and health.

In order to achieve great fitness and weight loss results, you must bridge the gap between where you currently are and where you want to be.

What this means is, you have to find a way to get from where you currently are (or are not) to where you want to go.

It's the same principle as using a roadmap. You use a map to get from Point A to Point B without blindly driving around trying to find your destination.

Learning to bridge the gap from where you are to where you want to go can be done more easily if you model, or copy, after someone that has already achieved some of the same things you want to achieve.

For example, say that your best friend recently lost 20 pounds and looks great. Why not ask them how they did it and then, providing they lost the weight in a reasonable manner, copy what it is they did.

Two things must be figured out when you are trying to bridge the gap between success and failure.

First step in the process is you must ask yourself "Where am I currently at in my fitness endeavors?

Does anything even need to change? Am I overweight? What do I weigh? What is so emotionally painful with being overweight?

What are my alternatives? If I do not do anything right now to change, do I want to spend another week, month, or year like I am right now?

Take a peek into the future? Where do you see yourself in 6 months to a year if you continue heading the in same direction you are heading now. Will your health be negatively affected or just your self-esteem.

What is it I am doing in my workout routine that is not producing results. What is it in my nutrition that is not working? If everything that needed to be done was getting done, I would be seeing better results, so something is not working for me.

After you determine where you currently are, you know must then find out where it is you want to go.

What do I want to weigh? How do I want my clothes to fit? How much energy would I like to have? What size do I want my waist to be?

If I change for the better right now and start implementing a proper fitness program, what will I feel and look like in 6 months or a year. What size will I be or what brand new clothes will I be able to fit in.

What is it I would be ultimately happy with achieving in the realm of fitness and weight loss. In crystal clear terms, what do I want to achieve.

When you find that answer, that is going to be your destination.

To achieve fitness and weight loss success, you must bridge the gap that lies between where you currently are and where it is you want to end up.

When you determine where it is you want to end up, you need to make certain choices and certain decisions about how it is you will get to your destination.

The quickest way to get there is to follow someone else who has already achieved what it is you want, model after someone that has figured out what works and what doesn't.

This could be a friend, family member, or personal trainer.

In this case, it will be learning and copying some of the steps in this book.

There are certain "no matter whats" when it comes to losing weight, gaining muscle or strength, or any other fitness goal you may have.

Much like certain principles or laws, like the law of gravity, these "no-matter-what's" will work 100% of the time, whether you like it or not.

If you do certain things, than you will achieve weight loss, no matter what. Whether you like it or not is irrelevant, they will work.

You can have anything you want in life if you copy others that have achieved what it is you are looking for. If you want to learn about the stock market, read a book by Warren Buffet. If you want to learn a new language, pick up a Spanish book.

I am going to help you with weight loss success. Not because I know everything, but because at some point, I had to make the same choice and I know the end result of that choice. Experience of others can save you a lot of time.

It's not what you know or do that matters, it's what you know and do that produces results. Weight loss is 80% behavior. It comes back to the choices that we make, or do not make. So, in order to lose weight effectively and permanently, you must change your behavior, or those things that cause you to gain weight in the first place.

In fact, often the only thing that distinguishes successful people from unsucessful ones is direction.

You only get what you ask for in life, so ask for more. There are specific reasons behind why you either cannot lose weight or why the weight does not stay off. Until you uncover those reasons, weight loss will be minimal, at best.

It has to do with the choices you make each and every day. If you are stressed out from work, do you chose to workout or run to get rid of tension or do you plop down on the couch and eat an entire bag of Doritos.

The choices you make dictate the life you lead.

I do not like to offer my clients a "Band-Aid" approach to getting in shape. I want results to last. I am one of these people that want to know why both how and why something works. Other people are just happy knowing that it works.

But it only works as well as you want it to work.

So begin studying how others have achieved their goals and you too, can copy their success and achieve what you want to achieve as well.

How to Have a More Productive Day

I get a lot of emails asking how I find the time to write an article every day.

2 reasons:

1) I type fast

and

2) I make my day as productive as possible.

Here's how to make your day more productive.

Step 1 - Get up earlier.

And yes, that requires going to sleep earlier. But I'm not talking an hour or two...but only 10 or 20 minutes earlier per day.

The extra 20 minutes are magic time...the time in morning when I, as many people do, get more done than they do in several hour blocks at other points later in the day. So get up sleepyhead, and use the solitude to take care of business.

(And when you get into work, do the same. Get in early, get straight to work, and you'll find yourself ahead of the crowd in no time.)

Step 2 - Water x 2

Water plays an important role in getting my morning off to a fast start. First, I drink 2 cups of cold water to wash down 3 fish oil capsules. Then I start on breakfast (oatmeal, protein, berries, yogurt, and nuts) while sitting down to answer the emails you've sent me overnight.

Getting up 10 minutes earlier to answer these emails has made a huge difference in my productivity. No question. Consider doing the same for yourself.

The second role of water is the shower. People are more creative around running water. And I'm not the first to say this...Matt Furey has brought this up as well, saying that he gets a lot of his ideas when surrounded by water...there must be something about being in water that stimulates the mind.

So powerful are the effects of water on my creativity that I literally have to write the ideas down as soon as I get out of the shower. Once that water stops running, the ideas start to vanish...

Now the only thing that compares in terms of idea stimulation, for me, is exercise. So when you workout, take a note pad - not only to record your workout but to brainstorm and problem solve.

Step 3 - Nutrition

I've started the day with the healthiest supplement possible - fish oil, and I eat protein, fiber, berries, and nuts to start my day - giving me the fiber to control my appetite and blood sugar till the next meal.

Step 4 - Green Tea

Do not pass go. Do not stop at Starbucks. Do not collect your regular caffeine-loaded beverage. Instead, brew your own organic Green Tea to provide you with a lower dose of caffeine (or none at all if you get naturally de-caffeinated Green Tea). Army researchers have found that smaller amounts of caffeine delivered at more frequent intervals lead to better performance. Don't overdose on caffeine every morning.

And if you get a headache without your morning cup of coffee, congratulations! You're addicted to the world's most common drug. And you might want to do something about that...

Step 5 - A Steady Supply of Protein, Healthy Fats, and Fiber

Self-explanatory by now, I should hope! Snack on almonds, lean protein sources, fibrous vegetables, an apple, etc. over the morning to keep mentally sharp.

Step 6 - Bodyweight Energizer Bunny

Remember the secret to instant energy when you hit the a mid-morning motivational slump...

10 reps of the Y-Squat - This is a bodyweight squat with your hands held up in a "Y" position.

Step 7 - Don't let lunch rob you of your mental energy

Unless you want to go straight from lunch into an hour-long productivity-destroying nap, then lay off the breaded veal sandwiches at lunch.

Stick to the program: lean protein, fibrous green vegetables, Green Tea, healthy fats, etc. Avoid these mental buzz killers: soda, pizza, a lot of bread, french fries, desserts, and so on.

If you want to run an elite mental engine, you have to burn high-performance fuel.

Step 8 - Lose Fat & You Will Make More Money

Now that's an unconventional way to increase productivity.

But welcome to the harsh reality of size-ism.

Research shows that overweight men and women make less money than their normal weight colleagues. While the world is not fair, you can even the playing field by eating and exercising properly.

The healthy lifestyle and workouts will help lose fat, while increasing your creativity and productivity. I smell promotion.

So let's leave it there for today...because if you aren't having a massively productive morning by now, then I'm not convinced you even get up before noon.

Now go be productive!

Acupuncture and Weight Loss

Obesity is a state of being obese, or overweight due to excessive accumulation of fat. The love for junk food and lethargy has played a great part in spreading this disease. Nowadays, not only adults but also children are suffering from the problem of excessive weight.

Some of the effective remedies for weight loss include exercise, yoga, crash diet and acupuncture.

In the recent years, acupuncture has gained wide acclaim as an effective therapy to control and lose excess weight. Acupuncture is a healing system that was developed in china some 2,500 years ago. Acupuncture was introduced in America in the late 1800s. Since than it has been used as an alternative medicine to treat a wide range of diseases including depression, insomnia, drug abuse and weight loss. However, it did not come into popularity until President Nixon made his historical visit to China in 1972. That is the event that largely opened the door from East to West and vice-versa.

There are about 2,000 acupuncture points on the human body. Each point is associated with different healing attributes. Acupuncture points within the year are tapped for detoxification and weight loss. The organs treatable by ear acupuncture, for example, include the lung, kidneys, liver and nervous system.

But before deciding to go for acupuncture as a remedy for your weight loss, be sure to make sure you are using a reputable weight loss practitioner. If treated by an expert practitioner, acupuncture can be an easy way out to free you from the shackles of excessive fat accumulated in your body.

Acupuncture provides detailed information on Acupuncture, Acupuncture And Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture Schools, Acupuncture and Weight Loss and more. Acupuncture is affiliated with Aromatherapy Candles.

Can Exercise Lower Cholesterol

You probably are already aware of the overall benefit to health that exercise has but can exercise lower cholesterol ? You bet! In fact its one of the easiest, cheapest, and non invasive methods of reducing cholesterol. Its too bad so many people turn to drugs rather than exercise which also has the benefit of relaxation.

Only 10% of Americans exercise 3 times a week or more. Thats pretty amazing for that leaves 90% that are exercising too little or not at all. Exercising does not have to be complicated and it does not have to cost you a dime. No need to join a gym or take an aerobic class unless you want to. Why not start with something as basic as a walk. Youll be surprised at the benefits you will feel.

Exercise has all kinds of benefits and reducing cholesterol is one of those. Studies show that an unfit man can reduce his risk of death by 37% just by becoming fit, and women can reduce their risk by 48%. Those are pretty impressive numbers.

Walking is the best way to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease which cholesterol is the main underlying problem. Walking is also the best fat burner. In fact walking burns double the number of calories than running the same distance as the walk. And it reduces bad cholesterol.

You should work towards an easy 30 to 45 minute walk three to four times a week. This is not a race. Just walk at your own pace. If you are within walking distance of work walk to work otherwise park your car further away then normal and walk. Maybe use your lunch time to go for a walk and always use the stairs rather than the elevator. In fact stair climbing is a great work out and it gives you great looking legs.

When you decide to start to exercise its important that you were proper walking shoes. Dont confuse what you need with a running shoe which is too soft. Dont push yourself at first. Start slow and build your strength. The first couple of weeks you might not even be able to walk the 30 minutes and thats okay. Its not a race and you dont need to be anywhere fast.

Its better to exercise before you eat because food in your stomach needs additional energy and can interfere with being able to exercise. Fruit and water are okay. Always stretch before you start to ensure all your muscles are warmed up and you wont strain anything. And finally whats most important is consistency. You cant expect results if you walk once in awhile whenever you get the urge. You wont loose the pounds, wont lower your cholesterol, and wont give your heart the attention it deserves.

Can exercise lower cholesterol ? Absolutely! And all it takes is a walk a day.

Exercises For Losing Weight

I have been asked a thousand times if there are exercises I can do to lose weight. My answer is always the same, yes and no. If you are trying to lose weight there are many different variables involved and you must combine these in order to effectively lose weight while at the same time build muscle tone. If your main goal is to just lose weight than you need to start by following a healthy diet and start a cardiovascular exercise program. By combining the two you can jumpstart your weight loss goals and get healthier in the process.

Cardiovascular exercises will not only get you in shape but will also increase your metabolic rate. When you increase your metabolic rate you will turn on the natural fat burning engine in your body.

Provided you have clearance from your doctor and don't have any health problems that will preclude you from exercising you can start with a few basic exercises to get you on your way.

The first thing you should do is to start a daily walking program. Get off the couch put on your sneakers and take a nice healthy walk. Start off with a slow walk and go as far as you can go before you get fatigued. Try and increase the distance and intensity of the walk till you are easily walking one to two miles at a time. When you reach this level you can add light hand weights and also light leg weights to help increase your strength and stamina.

I have seen people make incredible gains in both strength and weight loss by simply starting a daily walking routine. They are burning fat by raising their metabolic rate and at the same time avoiding the temptation to eat because they are seeing immediate results.

In addition to starting a walking program and eating healthy you can begin to incorporate some resistance exercises. Some resistance exercise could include pushups, crunches, jumping jacks and lunges. Perform three to five sets of each and twelve to fifteen repetitions. You can do these every day until you reach a plateau and feel you need to increase the intensity and or duration.

If you are determined to get in shape and lose fat then you must make a commitment to follow through. I've seen too many people start an exercise and fat lose program with the best intentions only to get bored and lose interest. You must keep it interesting and keep challenging yourself. You need to find a program that works for you and keeps you excited about achieving your goals.

Good Luck and remember being fit is a way of life.

Kevin has been training for over thirty years and has written many articles on training and muscle building. Don't even think about buying any more supplements, resorting to drugs or giving up until you read this revealing, no-holds barred muscle building report.

Do Your New Year's Weight Loss Resolutions Suck!

For many people, New Year's Day marks the start of a new chapter in their life. But often, they have a tough time making good New Year's resolutions, let alone sticking to them. Let me help you make better resolutions and create a plan to accomplish them.

It also offers a fresh opportunity to take advantage of some post-holiday motivation. A time to finally get serious about the workouts you resolved to do this year. And there is no better plan to follow than the combination of short strength and interval workouts.

Don't let that little voice in your head talk you out of success. If you want to get lean so that you can be lean for next summer, than now is the time to take action.

Tip 1 - Write your goals down, and be specific about them. Research has shown that when people write the goals down and are very clear about the details, they tend to have more success. So don't just think "i want to lose weight", write down "I want to lose 5 pounds". Then take that goal and post it so you see it every day. And think about it every day as well.

And as you go about your day, remember this..."Everything that you do is either taking you closer to or farther away from your goal". Think about that at every meal, or every time you choose to sit on the couch instead of exercising.

Tip 2 - Plan your nutrition. Spend 2 hours on the weekend shopping and preparing as many meals as you can for the workweek ahead. Don't get caught without good food at lunch and have to resort to the food court. That is not going to help. Pack your protein, fruits, vegetables, and nuts and you'll have good quality snack and lunch foods to give you energy while helping you control your appetite and burn fat.

Tip 3 - Use a professionally designed training program to help you get the most bang for your buck. Don't just go in to the gym unprepared. You'll be overwhelmed by the January crowds and you'll likely quit out of frustration.

So plan, prepare, and be confident that you have everything in place with your nutrition and training.

And finally, Tip 4 - Get social support. Have friends join you for workouts. Recruit your doctor, a nutritionist, and trainer to be on your side. Do all of these and you'll always have someone to turn to during tough times.

Good luck, and may this be your best year ever!

Weight Loss Incentives

Many people fail to maintain their diets because their regimens lack the weight loss incentives that keep them motivated to persist, put up with the hardship, the discipline, and the sacrifices in order to achieve their goals.

The remedy in this type of situation is not necessarily to "put up and shut up". The best weight loss incentive is to follow a diet that has all of the characteristics necessary to keep you motivated.

What if you could follow a diet that allowed you to eat as much food as you want at each meal until you are satisfied?

What if you could follow a diet that allowed you to eat food from all four food groups?

What if you could follow a diet that required you to eat four full meals every day?

Best of all: What if you could follow a diet that required you to take a mandatory 3-day "cheat break" from the diet every 2 weeks?

Finally, what if you could follow a diet that combined all of the above characteristics, while asserting that you can expect to lose 9 pounds every 11 days on this diet?

Well, there is some very good news then: There does exist such a diet. It is known as the calorie shifting diet. The calorie shifting diet is gaining widespread popularity and emerging as another player in the field of the so-called "mainstream" diets.

Sometimes the reason why so many diets fail is not because the person lacks the willpower to persist on the diet, but because the diet itself is doomed to fail. The calorie shifting diet, on the other hand, is extremely simple to follow, and is virtually idiot-proof against any type of diet sabotage.

So what are you waiting for? Generate your personalized meal plan now at http://www.IdiotProofFatLoss.com and you will be 9 pounds lighter in a week and a half!

Starvation Diets - Starving to Lose Weight

A starvation diet in my mind is any diet where you are starving yourself. I know that when we are dieting usually we will restrict our calories so that we are burning more calories than we eat but on a starvation diet we are actually restricting calories to such a point that we affect our metabolism and force our bodies to jump into a phase below dieting where we are not able to lose weight anymore.

To understand a starvation diet we need to look at what we are doing to our body when if we decide not to eat at all for a few days. First of all our bodies will think that we are just between meals and our body will start to use up blood sugar and then start burning up carbs until they are gone. Once we have run out of carbs our body should use fat and muscle tissue for energy but instead will start to lower our metabolism in a fight to protect our bodiesthis is the starvation phase. Eventually if we did not eat our bodies would start to burn off our fat and muscle and our metabolism would slow to a point where we would become very lethargic and our organs would start to slow down and eventually shut down and we would die. There are not many people that would go this far bad as we see in people with bulimia this definitely does happen sometimes.

Instead of using a starvation diet to lose weight what most diets tend to do is to confuse the mind and body so that our metabolism well stay up and will continue to burn fat while at the same time hopefully not burning the muscle that we have nearly as quickly. If we look at bodybuilders in their dieting phase before a competition they must lose all of their fat so they have to diet fairly hard and expect to lose some of their muscle actually quite a bit of muscle.

When you are looking at a diet and do not want to starve look at the following points.

1. What is the goal of your diet? Usually the goal is to lose fat
2. What are you going to do to lose that fat? If you diet your body needs to stay a little bit comfortable and if your try to lose weight too fast you will go into starvation mode.
3. What are you going to do to raise your metabolism? Most people will use exercise for two reasons, firstly the exercise will burn calories to help you lose weight, but even more importantly getting exercise will force your body to raise your metabolism so that it can be ready when more exercise is going to happen.

In reading this hopefully you will see your body as I do, and that is that our bodies are machines that adjust to stimuli fairly quickly. Your body will speed up and slow down its burning of calories and storing of fat. I hope this will help you a little bit in learning to control your body using diet and exercise.

How to Lose Weight Fast

Are you looking to lose weight fast because you have an upcoming event or just like to look good in her swimsuit? Have you become a walking whale? Sorry, let me try to say this in a less self-esteem destroying way. Would you like to lose a few pounds so you will look and feel better? I've been there and believe me you are not alone. I have had my moments where I desperately needed to know how to lose weight fast. I think I've seen them all. Every conceivable diet and exercise program designed to teach people how to lose weight fast they run the gamut from eating nothing but carbs, to nothing but meat, to nothing but veggies and fruit. I chose the fruit and veggie one. It actually seemed to make sense to me.

Oh yeah, and I finally got off my butt and started exercising. Not every guide to how to lose weight fast says it, most of them will, you won't shed any pounds if you don't in the work as far as exercise goes. So I started jogging, lifting weights, stretching it seem like pretty much hit them all, I was doing it. I was highly motivated at first, and it seemed as if of I figured out how to lose weight fast. The pounds seemed to be melting away, until I was within site of my goal. And then, with 10 pounds to lose, I just gave up. Some reason I hit a wall and I could no longer lose any more weight.

I realize that 10 pounds more isn't really that big of a deal. But that ten pounds contained in an ugly little pouch right on my stomach. I mean it looks terrible, hideous even. There has to be some way how to lose weight fast that goes all the way and get the job done. When your goal is to be able to put on a bikini without embarrassment, but you don't quite make it, it can be quite a let down. I mean it is much too soon to give up, but I'm running out of time.

I would estimate that the self proclaimed experts on how to lose weight fast aren't actual health experts at all, and that is a big part of the problem. You see, anyone who knows the human body well will tell you that although you can learn how to lose weight fast, it doesn't necessarily mean it will be a healthy thing. It can be quite dangerous, and many times the weight loss is not sustainable. But still, you to get frustrated and would like to get instant results, and unless I figure out how to lose weight fast right now, I will not get the kind of attention I want there. I know it sounds sad. Perhaps I should really be looking at treating my vanity issues.

Weight Loss Tips

I wrote an article on losing weight before. It was well received and I have added some new tips. Lift weights. A lot of people only think of this when they want to get stronger. But you can burn a lot of calories when you lift and it can speed up your metabolism for hours afterwards.

Run sprints. Another common misconception is that you need long endurance running to burn calories.

But running sprints at top speed for 8 to 10 seconds can burn a lot of calories and speed up the metabolism.

It's also great for people that want to lose weight without hurting there explosive capability (endurance running will hinder your explosiveness. I once heard that most marathon runners have a 12" vertical jump.)

You don't necessarily have to eat less. You might just need to change what you eat. Try eating more fruits, vegetables, lean meats grains and low fat dairy products. I recommend having skim milk you can even have chocolate milk as that is usually low fat.

You should eat healthy and watch your calories five days a week but you can take two days a week to eat more and enjoy less healthy foods.

If you want to eat something that you shouldn't during the "rest of the week" then eat it in the morning. You should eat less as the day gets later. Sometimes it's best to eat a little something now rather than a lot later. What I mean by that is that just quitting your favorite foods cold turkey can cause you to really pack them in later.

So letting yourself have some every now and then can help give you the drive to keep watching what you eat. Use the two days a week where you are allowed to eat more and the early morning eating you help you with this. It can be a lot easier to say "I can't have that right now but I can have some in the morning" or "I can't have that today but in a couple days I will be able to have as much as I want" as opposed to saying "I can never eat that again" or "I can't have any till I lose at least 75 pounds".

If you take that attitude you will probably give up before you get there.

Also I have heard that taking some sugar free gum can help you overcome cravings for sweets. I am not a fan of artificial sweeteners, but I do make an exception with gum. Any gum that you chew (sugar free or not) will have less calories for you then eating something. And not only can gum help overcome cravings but you are also less likely to eat something when you have gum in your mouth.

Not to promote tobacco use but have you ever known someone that chewed tobacco? They don't eat when they have "just put a pinch in" the same thing can work for you! That's why I recommend keeping a good tasting and long lasting gum with you.

When you get a craving for sweets, doesn't work well when you are REALLY hungry but if you are just craving something or a little hungry then have some gum. Or if you are getting ready to go somewhere that you might be tempted like the gas station then pop in a piece.

Personally have chewed Extra sugar free gum, but I don't think that it's all that great. Anyway I would be more worried about what the sugar does to your teeth then gaining weight from gum with sugar in it. I have heard that Orbit sugar free sweetmint gum works well for this purpose.

Drink at least one glass of water BEFORE every meal. I also recommend have a glass of water or skim milk with ever meal to help fill you up.

To strengthen your body you slowly build up the weight and get progressively stronger.

To strengthen your mind you challenge it with progressively harder material.

The same thing can be done with your appetite. You should stop eating before you get full at every meal. If you eat till you are no longer famished but are not yet full you can progressively train yourself to feel satisfied with less.

We have probably heard it a hundred times at least but it's probably worth mentioning at least one more time. Do the little things like taking the stairs instead of the elevator or park father away from the entrance and walk a little extra.

Make it a game what can you do to burn more calories today?

One of the biggest reasons that most people fail trying to lose weights is probably a combination of procrastination and hard to archive goals.

People put off dieting till things get really bad "I am not really that fat" "It's just a little baby fat" "I will lose it easy enough when I want to" Then real quick they realizes that they are way over weight and they want to lose it right now! "I am huge and I am going somewhere warm for the holidays! I need to lose 50 pounds in two weeks so that I can go to the beach!"

Then they diet for a week and a halve actual lose a good 5 pounds but quit because they are not going to reach their goal and they feel the they can't go there whole life without ever eating that "stuff" ever again (which is what they told themselves when they started this diet).

If they would have started sooner (like when they only had 25 pounds to lose and had 4 months to do it) then they could have worked themselves into shape (remember the sprints? Well they are a great weight loss tool but a lot of people that need to lose weight aren't in good enough shape to do anything at top speed! By losing a little weight you can make it easier to lose more weight.)

They could have also took advantage of my "eating loop holes" and had that "stuff" that they were really craving. They could have had it in the morning or on there "off" days. And that might have even been able to eat just as much as they wanted if they changed there diet.

So some of the things that you can do to burn more fat are Lift weights, Sprint, Do little things to burn more calories, Eat less, Eat differently, Eat at different times.

All of this can be done in almost limitless combinations.

High-Speed Blenders And Weight Loss

Designer smoothie bars are almost as common as coffee shops these days. It's little wonder too. Where else can you get a healthy snack that contains so many nutrients all in one glass? The answer is: at home. With a high speed blender, it's easy to re-create those fancy, nutrition filled fruit smoothies at home. Chances are, you'll save a lot of money too.

In addition to paying much less, there are several compelling reasons for making your own smoothies with a high speed blender. Consider the following benefits:

* You can give your dieting efforts a healthy boost. Mixing fruits, vegetables, yogurt, soy milk, or other ingredients in a high-speed blender releases the vitamins, minerals, and fibers which they contain. This allows for much quicker processing by the body. The result is a fuller feeling in a shorter time, meaning you are less likely to overeat. It also means more of those nutrients are able to be absorbed by your body. Plus, you have control over the amount of fat and sugar that goes into your recipe.

* It's easier to get your RDA. It can be tough to eat your RDA (recommended daily allowance) of fruits, vegetables, and other nutrients. Using a high speed mixer makes it simple to get many of your nutrients all in one tasty go. A smoothie is also much easier to consume on the run than a handful of blueberries. Plus, you can add boosters like wheat-grass, flaxseed, bran, wheat germ, protein powder, ginseng, and many other nutritional supplements.

* Good nutrition is linked to better mental health. If you are struggling with obesity, you may also be experiencing symptoms of depression. Depression has been linked to being overweight. Doctors encourage people who are seeking treatment for mood disorders to eat a healthy, balanced diet. This is because physicians know that good nutrition can help improve mood by restoring chemical balance to the brain. What better natural depression treatment than a home-made smoothie? There are few easier ways to increase ones intake of fruits and vegetables, plus healthy staples like yogurt, milk, soy milk, and fresh cheese, than to mix them in a delicious smoothie.

* You can experiment with your own ingredients. Whatever fruits and vegetables you like can be combined for a tailor-made snack or meal. You can choose from either fresh or frozen. Fresh fruits and vegetables tend to be slightly higher in vitamins. However, frozen are also healthy, and will add a hearty texture to your concoction.

Sometimes people get discouraged with their efforts to make smoothies at home. Often this is because they are using an ordinary food processor rather than a high speed blender. While food processors may do an adequate job of mixing, they are not made for pureeing and grinding as blenders are. The results from blenders are more appetizing. They also tend to release the vitamins and minerals more quickly.

So forget about those expensive juice bars. Creating your own delicious masterpieces at home may lead to better mental health and put you on the fast-track to weight loss.

Thomas Fox researches fast speed high performance blenders in respect to weight loss and depression and if there is one, what the relationship is between food, allergies, asthma, depression, obesity, stop-smoking and workplace productivity. Why Weight Watchers Doesnt Work

We have all heard of Weight Watchers and many of us who have struggled with diets with the need to lose a few pounds may have even tried attending Weight Watchers meetings, some have success while many others fail miserably. Weight watchers cannot work magic, just like any other form of dieting the success behind it is all down to the person not the plan to lose weight; sadly, there is no magic formula which will help us to shed the pounds overnight while we sleep. Understanding why any diet does not work is critical for success and the Weight Watchers program is no exception, so why do so many of us fail when it comes to dieting and following a program such as Weight Watchers?

Persevering with the plan

The biggest mistake that many of us make is not sticking to the plan, a program such as Weight Watchers requires you to pay a membership fee so it is essential that you have the commitment needed to go into the plan and follow it through by sticking to it before signing up for membership. Weight Watchers relies on the person keeping track of what they eat and taking full advantage of the support that Weight Watchers gives to members. All diets basically rely on counting calories or points, values of the food we eat and weight watchers relies on a points system, a point value is assigned to each food based on the amount of calories and fat content within that particular food. A person is then allowed a certain number of points throughout the day based on their sex and weight, the system of course will work adequately if the number of points are stuck to per day but if the person continually goes over the recommended daily allotted amount of points then quite simply they are not going to lose weight and indeed could in fact gain weight.

Failing to keep a journal

It is essential for a plan such as Weight Watchers to be successful that you keep a journal and write down all the foods and keep a count of all the points which you are eating throughout the day, simply relying on your memory to keep count is not good enough. Besides simply forgetting you ate something you could also conveniently forget all about that nibble you had with your coffee, if you are going to be successful with the Weight Watchers program then you have to keep a written journal and include every single point that you put through your lips.

Guesswork

One of the biggest reasons why so many people fail at Weight Watchers is they underestimate the number of points they have eaten throughout a day. By guessing the number of points in a plateful of food you are on the track to failure, by repeatedly underestimating the number of points you are eating and by doing this you can never expect to lose weight. Some people who follow the weight watchers system also misunderstand the system because certain foods such as vegetables have no points as long as you measure that amount in one cup. However they get misled into thinking that you are allowed as many vegetables as you wish and its still classed as no points, therefore some people think they are allowed to eat an unlimited amount of these types of food which is wrong. Always be sure you totally understand the points system of a program like Weight Watchers and if in doubt ask a representative for advice on calculating using the points system.

Any type of diet requires willpower and determination and Weight Watchers is no exception, only by following the guidelines set out will you be successful in your weight loss program, proper calculation of points and keeping a written account if everything you eat is essential to making the program work as is sticking with it over time and changing your lifestyle and the way you eat after you have successfully lost the amount of weight you want to lose.

The Secret Of How To Lose Weight Fast And Easy

Everyone goes on a diet sometime. Whether it's for a day, a week, a month, or a year, odds are that at one time or other you will need to shift a few stubborn kilos in order to feel better about yourself. That's where knowing the secret of how to lose weight fast and easy comes in.

Dieting is an industry that makes millions. Actually no, it makes hundreds of millions of pounds every year. Why? Because no-one wants to follow the age-old equation that hard work and exercise plus a good diet equals weight loss. Everyone wants to know the secret. Who wants to work for it if there is a way to shift the weight quicker and more easily?

So, fad diets, packaged foods, vitamin drinks, specially-designed clothing, weight reduction pills, and home exercise equipment (usually easily stored away) are sold on a massive scale. If there's a trick or a knack that will help shed those kilos, the masses want to know. That's where the money lies, in people's desperation to know how to do this.

However, you need not spend millions to learn the secret of how to lose weight fast and easy. In fact, it's no so much a secret as a change in attitude. It comprises five different aspects, each as important as the other and needless to say, that if you follow it rigidly, you will have learnt how to do it.

Firstly, you have to change your way of thinking. By thinking or saying "I'm on a diet" automatically you place yourself under stress and temptation to break it. It's like someone saying "Don't look down" when you're up high - as soon as the words have been said you have an overwhelming urge to look down.

Instead, you should be thinking, "I'm changing my eating habits" which is a lot less daunting and much easier to actually do. Changing your eating habits can take place immediately and provide instant results.

For example, replace salad cream with a little olive oil and lemon juice; white bread with brown; boiled vegetables with raw ones; fruit juice and soft drink with water; fried food with grilled food; and sugar with honey.

In this way, you have not deprived yourself of anything, nor cut down the amounts of food you are eating, but with very little effort, you have reduced major sources of fat and calories.

Secondly, you need to change the way you spend your energy. The idea of replacing taking a lift with walking up the stairs is unbearable if you have to go to the 30th floor, however, if it's just one floor, then chances are it's no more than 25 steps, which is not so bad.

By improving your food intake, and increasing your energy output - even by just a little - it's logical that you will lose weight. How much weight you lose and over how long a period of time will just depend on how rigidly you stick to these two criteria, neither of which is particularly difficult in its own right.

In reality, no-one wants to work really hard for a very long time, however if you know that it's going to be for less than 15 minutes, it can seem a lot more bearable. E-books such as "12 Minutes to Fit and Fabulous" available from http://www.weightlossfatburnersecrets.com are a cheap way to learn how to lose weight fast and easy.

Worst Weight Loss Mistakes

All of us are eager to lose weight one way or another. Many people around the world gain weight because of the lifestyle they are living in. Weight control is a problem for which there are hundreds or thousands of weight losing methods and techniques available in the market nowadays. Many of the people around the world use such methods to lose their weight but sometimes such techniques are useless. You can easily lose weight if you avoid these worst mistakes that people often make in their weight loss methods. Then you will see a profound change in your weight.

One of the worst mistakes that almost every person makes is that their planning is poor. All your methods of losing weight fail if you don't have a good planning. First of all you must create a special list for your diet, exercise and an activity list that you must follow in order to lose extra weight in your body. After making the list you must stick to it, no deviations can be accepted once the list is made. Another mistake is people run from exercise, because they think it is a fatigue of some kind. However, that is not true. To lose weight exercise is very important. You can easily find a number of plans that would help you concentrate on less exercise but in fact you need to exercise daily so that you can burn calories in body. There is no use of a good diet plan unless you put your exercising list in action.

Some people make a mistake about the kind of exercise done. Many potential weight losers use aerobic style of exercise to lose weight. There is no doubt that aerobic exercise would help you but it is not enough in order to lose weight. You need to exercise in a way that your metabolism in the body is increased, quickly. By increasing the muscles, you can increase the rate of metabolism in your body. It is put in a way that more muscles you have in your body faster will be your metabolism rate. The increase in your metabolism rate is directly proportional to your calories burning in the body. Many people who want to lose weight avoid the exercise, which involves weight lifting or provides any type of resistance to your body. The concept is very wrong. You need to practice resistance exercise in order to increase your muscles so that you lose weight quickly.

Most of the people think that by starving themselves they can lose weight very quickly but this idea is wrong too because once you start starving yourself you are helping your body to expand more. They think they can burn more calories like this but in fact the opposite is happening. There are some other problems too like drinking too much alcohol can cause you to gain weight, too much exercise and by comparing your weight with others will not be beneficial as it will cause you to lose a physiological edge over others.

10 Things You Must Know About Fat Loss

Ever wondered why there are so many diets around out there and people are just getting fatter and fatter. We now know that fad and repeat dieting don't work, so what does!

I have put together 10 fat loss tips below and if followed will make things a lot easier for you on your road to fat loss.

Lets have a look at a few:

Burn Fat: Lift Weights - Muscle determines the speed of your metabolism - the speed of your metabolism depends on how much muscle you have. That's why men burn fat faster than women... They have more muscle. Women could burn fat faster if they had more muscle.

Women are scared to lift weights because they will get bigger muscles!!

If only this was were the case. Women do not have the hormone levels to build big muscles, however they can replace the muscle tissue lost through years of crazy dieting, irregular eating habits and age.

Yes everybody is losing muscle, every year; every decade because we are getting older, but only people who let their muscles waste away have slower metabolisms as they get older.

Keep your muscles and keep your fat burning machine! The only way to do this is get strong and stay strong.

Toss The Scales - The scales tell you none of the things you need to know about your body and everything you don't.

They don't tell you how much fat you have under your skin, they don't tell you how much skin for that matter. The scales can't tell you how much fluid is in your body.

What your bones weigh and most importantly, how much muscle you have? However, weighing yourself can turn a perfectly good day into a miserable day?

Don't let an inanimate, household item determine what kind of day you will have! They are not accurate so throw them away.

Muscle Vs Fat - Muscle weighs two times as much as fat yet takes up half the space. Muscle is responsible for burning fat. Muscle is small when compared with fat. Muscle never hangs off your body in unsightly lumps.

Muscle looks toned, tight, strong and lean. Muscle is tight and hard to the touch and muscle is heavy. Fat is lumpy and soft and flabby, fat takes up a lot of space, fat hangs off your body. Fat is also soft to the touch and does not weigh as much as muscle.

Always Eat Breakfast - Research has concluded that having breakfast is important to kick-start the metabolism for the day, the body slows down whilst sleeping and food first thing in the morning actually awakens the body ready for the rest of the day.

Also try eating more fibre at this time as it helps the digestive system work more effectively and will help keep the blood sugar levels spread evenly throughout the day.

Don't Cut Back On Calories - Food has a heating effect on the body increasing your metabolic rate; don't eat less than 1200 calories, as this will throw the body into a starvation mode. Your metabolism will then slow down to conserve the calories that you do have.

Try to avoid fad diets if possible as they restrict or reduce the nutrients flowing to the body, which in turn slows down the metabolic rate.

Eat Small Regular Meals - Eat five or six small meals a day as this will trick the body into thinking that there is an abundance of food and will stop your metabolism from slowing down, keeping your sugar levels at a normal level and this will stop you overeating.

Try eating the majority of your food earlier in the day, as the majority of the calories will be burned up while you are awake and active.

Count Calories - The way to keep track of weight loss is to buy a calorie counter and record your daily calorie intake for a week. Average out your calories for the day and then decrease the calories by 300 - 500 (No More) then gauge what happens.

By decreasing the amount of calories per day to this amount you should start losing weight. Don't go any lower; check the mirror as well as the scales to judge your progress.

Don't Repeat Diet - Research shows repeated dieting actually makes it harder to lose weight and easier to put it on because when you dump the diet and return to normal eating habits the drop in metabolic rate caused by the diet means that your old habits actually represent an excess in calories.

Not only do you regain the fat stores just lost, but also you may even gain an extra bit. If you find your weight loss starting to slow or stop over a period of time, increase your walking pace a little or throw in a couple of hills along your route.

Keep Track Of Fats - This may appear difficult to maintain and calculate but it isn't. On nearly all packaged food these days there is a nutritional label with a fat indicator per 100gms of that particular food.

What your looking for here is a figure below 10 gms and nearing 5 gms would be the ideal. So purchasing and consuming foods around this range you'll be on your weight loss target.

The Low down On Fats - It is stored in the fat cells of the body. The number of fat cells is estimated to be around 50 billion for the average person. It can be up to 100 billion for the obese person.

Fat cells are like storage tanks of energy to be used for later use. It has been shown that obese people who binge eat may stimulate baby fat cells to sprout to increase the number of fat cells.

Believe me, once you start applying these 10 tips to your everyday weight loss regime you will start to notice the difference in a short period of time.

Metabolic Individuality And Weight Loss!

We see many famous people losing oodles of weight and then regaining all the weight very soon.
Many dieters find themselves in this trap of dieting to lose weight, only to have the pounds return and refuse to come off a second time. Why does this happen?

There are several reasons, including diet induced hypothyroidism (low thyroid function,) other diet induced metabolic imbalances, loss of lean tissues as well as metabolic individuality.

It helps to understand the three metabolic body types and the fat metabolism.

Before beginning any sort of dieting program, it is a good idea to consider why a change is desirable. There could be several reasons, such as beauty, health and others. The most unrealistic expectation concerns the appearance. All the models or actresses that we see on TV possess the natural body types of only a small percentage of people - they are not most of us. It is a good idea to find the ideal body weight, which is a healthful and sustainable weight that suits one's own metabolic individuality.

Physiology divides the body types into three general categories: ectomorphs (naturally slender), mesomorphs (large boned and muscular) and endomorphs (put on weight easily.) These body types are inherited.

Since it is not possible to change the body types, it is unrealistic to expect any diet program to change our body type.

Obesity can occur in any of these body types. If obese, realistic goals can be set to lose excess weight by undergoing a program consisting of a good diet along with a proper exercise program. You may not be svelte like that model on the TV, if you don't belong to that body type, but you will be healthy, which is what we should all be looking to achieve.

Natural Fast Weight Loss

Obesity is quickly becoming an epidemic with 65% of Americans being overweight. Men and women alike have tried to various diets with some degree of success, only to gain it all back or more. With the increase of our body fat is the increase in health risk from diabetes, high cholesterol, to heart disease.

With obesity on the rise people are taken notice, along with health gurus with new diets or pharmaceutical companies with a new pill to aid in weight loss. Let's not forget all the infomercials with the latest exercise equipment either. None of these are needed. You just need 3 things for natural fast weight loss: change in the food you eat, cardio and exercise.

First of all, this isn't a diet. It is a lifestyle change. As said before, most diets tend to fail because, once you are off of the diet, you think you can go back to how you lived and everything will be ok. Wrong. Unless you change things in your life and maintain it, it will all creep back and the diet was nothing but a waste of time.

So getting started the best thing to do is keep a diary of you daily intake of food. By doing so, you will see everything you eat and how it all adds up. Second, when you shop for food, try to stick to the outside of the grocery. All the processed food is usually contained in the middle of the grocery and along the outside, you'll usually find fruits, vegetables and breads. Of course, you may have to venture in for spices and other things of the like. If you do buy any, be careful of the processed foods you buy. As they are processed, they tend to lose nutritional value.

When keeping a diary, keep track mainly of the calories. It doesn't matter how it is added up, 3500 calories equals one pound added to the body. The more you put in the more you need to burn off. Sure to eat less helps, but eventually the body will take over thinking it is being starved and stores more of your intake as fat to preserve itself. The correct way to do it is to slowly decrease your intake and find ways to burn extra calories throughout the day.

This is where cardio comes in. Yes, most people hate to do it but it is necessary to burn extra calories to lose the excess weight. There are many options here you can choose. Running, bike ride, aerobics or a treadmill just to name a few. If you can find something you like then cardio will be easier for you, but you will need to do something if you want to lose the excess weight.

Lastly is exercise, and no cardio is not exercise. Here you must be careful depending on how you wanna look when you wanna loose the weight. Most men wouldn't mind wanting to add a little more muscle to their frame, but not most women. Adding muscle isn't necessarily a bad thing. Yes, muscle weighs more than fat, but burns more fat by increasing the bodies metabolism rate. For those who don't mind some added muscle, you could always try some kind of weight training program. For those just looking to tone up their body you can go with weights but keep the weight low and your reps high. Or you can try various band or cable exercises.

When keeping weight loss in mind, it isn't always the scale that is your judge. The mirror is a better tale of your weight loss. Losing the weight is one thing but looking good when it is gone is another.
